RESUMO

The level of diversity and abundance of darkling beetles (Coleoptera, Tenebrionidae) is the main difference between the late Pleistocene and modern insect faunas of arid regions. In the Pleistocene assemblages they are extremely rare, whereas in the modern ones they predominate. It is assumed that the reason for their rarity in fossil entomological complexes is their lack of cold resistance. The supercooling points (SCP) and low lethal temperatures (LLT) of adults from five species of Altai darkling beetles that overwinter in the soil and larvae from one such species were measured in the laboratory. All beetles supercooled at negative temperatures but could not survive freezing, with the average SCP of the most cold-resistant species between -25.7 and -21.7 °C (Bioramix picipes, Anatolica dashidorzsi, and Penthicus altaicus). However, 50% of the individuals from different species in the experiment died after exposure during two days at temperatures ranging from -22 to -20 °C. The focal species are distributed in parts of Central Asia with an extreme continental climate, and the temperatures measured in the soil of these natural areas turned out to be lower than or close to the limit of cold resistance of the beetles. Overwintering of darkling beetles is therefore only possible in areas with deep snow: in hollows, under bushes, and under large cereals. Darkling beetles with poor cold resistance could not have existed in the colder climate of the late Pleistocene, which explains their absence from fossil fauna.

A new species of the genus Cartorhynchites (Rhynchitini, Rhynchitina) is described from Baltic amber. Cartorhynchites groehni Legalov, Bukejs et Alekseev sp. n. differs from C. struvei Zherikhin, 1992 from the Miocene of Germany in its smaller body size (2.6 mm), strongly convex eyes, narrower pronotum and wide elytra, and dark brown legs. A new species is studied and illustrated in detail using X-ray micro-computed tomography (µCT). It is the earliest fossil record of subtribe Rhynchitina. A list of fossil Rhynchitidae was compiled. A key to species of Rhynchitidae in Baltic amber was given. Fossil finds of the family Rhynchitidae were discussed. The assumption was made that the Recent distribution range of the genus Cartorhynchites is within the range of its host plant of the genus Symplocos. Probably, a new Eocene species developed on Symplocos kowalewskii, and the Oligocene C. struvei was associated with Symplocos myosotis (Unger).

A new soft-winged flower beetle, Burmalachius acroantennatus gen. et sp. nov. belonging to the tribe Malachiini (Coleoptera: Malachiidae), discovered in mid-Cretaceous Burmese amber is described. The new genus differs from the congeners of the tribe Malachiini in possessing the following characteristics: anterior tibiae widened and slightly curved inwards and excavate near the apices, tarsomeres of anterior legs depressed, 1st to 3rd tarsomeres simple and almost of equal size, tarsal comb lacking, "clavate" antennae due to dilated three apical antennomeres, 1st and 2nd antennomeres enlarged and of identical size, head strongly elongate, sides of elytra with carinate margins and widened epipleurae. This is the first record of the family Malachiidae in Burmese amber. Illustrations of the newly described species are provided. Keys for the identification of Melyrid lineage families, subfamilies of Malachiidae, tribes of the subfamily Malachiinae and genera of the tribe Malachiini are also given.

RESUMO

It has been suggested that palms of the genus Arenga (Arecales: Arecaceae) or forms close to it were distributed in the Eocene of North America and Europe. Records of Metrioxenini (Belidae), which are monophages on these palms, confirm this assumption. A new species, Succinometrioxena andrushchenkoi Legalov, sp. n. from Baltic amber is described. The new species differs from S. poinari Legalov, 2012 in the smaller body sizes, elytral punctation larger than the distances between them, and a rostrum weakly curved in females. It is distinguished from S. bachofeni Legalov, 2013 and S. attenuata Legalov et Poinar, 2020 by the forehead lacking horn-like tubercles on either side of the eyes. A description of male of S. poinari was herein compiled for the first time. A list and key to fossil Metrioxenini were given. The modern and fossil distribution of the tribe Metrioxenini and Arenga palms was shown.

RESUMO

A new species, Dorytomus mikhailovi sp. n., from late Eocene Rovno amber is described and illustrated. The new species is similar to D. groehni Bukejs et Legalov, 2019 from Baltic amber but differs in the shorter rostrum, dorsum covered with denser decumbent hairs and erect to semierect scale-like setae, and smaller body sizes. It is distinguished from D. bukejsi Legalov, 2020 from Baltic amber by the densely punctate pronotum, longer rostrum and wide elytral interstriae. The new species differs from D. vlaskini Legalov et al., 2019 from Rovno amber by the elytral interstriae covered with decumbent hairs and erect to semierect scale-like setae, shorter rostrum and coarsely punctuate pronotum. It is the first named curculionid beetle from the Olevsk amber locality, and the eleventh amber species reported from the Zhitomyr region. The presence of seven species of Dorytomus suggests a rather high diversity of Salicaceae in the late Eocene amber forests of Europe. It corresponds well with other principal Holarctic species in European amber biotas.

RESUMO

The weevil tribe Dryophthorini is reported in Peru for the first time. Two species from Satipo, Junin, Stenommatus chabooae Legalov n. sp. and Stenommatus sokolovi Legalov n. sp., are herein described. Stenommatus chabooae Legalov n. sp. is characterized by having the elytral interstriae narrower than striae width; pronotum coarsely punctate; large, narrow aedeagus, weakly curved at apex, with a large basal sclerite of the endophallus. Stenommatus sokolovi is characterized by having the elytral interstriae as wide as striae width; pronotum finely punctate; small, wide aedeagus, rounded at apex and endophallus lacking sclerites. A key to the South American species of the genus Stenommatus is given.


Se reporta por primera vez la tribu Dryophthorini para Perú. Se describen dos especies de Satipo, Junín, Stenommatus chabooae Legalov n. sp. y Stenommatus sokolovi Legalov n. sp. Stenommatus chabooae Legalov n. sp. se caracteriza por poseer las interestrías elitrales más anchas que el ancho de las estrías; pronoto fuertemente punteado; aedeago grande, estrecho, ligeramente curvado en el ápice y con un esclerito basal grande en el endófalo. Stenommatus sokolovi n. sp. se caracteriza por poseer las interestrías elitrales tan anchas como el ancho de las estrías; pronoto finamente punteado y aedeago pequeño, ancho, redondeado en su ápice y endofalo sin escleritos. Se propone una clave para las especies sudamericanas del género Stenommatus.

A new species, Omolabus (Sternolaboides) sokolovi Legalov n. sp. from Satipo, Central Peru, is described. New data for Hybolabus ater (Olivier, 1789), Omolabus (Perulabus) peruanus Legalov, 2004, O. (Pseudomolabus) westerduijni Legalov, 2008 and O. (Sternolaboides) ecuadorensis Legalov, 2007 are recorded. A verified species checklist of Peruvian Attelabidae based on literature and specimen examinations is presented. Distributions of 18 species from eight genera of two tribes found in the fauna of Attelabidae from Peru are given.


Se describe una nueva especie, Omolabus (Sternolaboides) sokolovi Legalov n. sp. de Satipo, centro de Perú. Se registran nuevos datos para Hybolabus ater (Olivier, 1789), Omolabus (Perulabus) peruanus Legalov, 2004, O. (Pseudomolabus) westerduijni Legalov, 2008 y O. (Sternolaboides) ecuadorensis Legalov, 2007. Basada en la literatura y exámenes de muestras, se elabora una lista de las 18 especies peruanas de Attelabidae, pertenecientes a ocho géneros de dos tribus, tambien se presentan sus distribuciones en Perú.
